What is the difference between a sworn and a notarized translation?

A sworn translation is made and stamped by a translator who has taken an oath before a notary. A notarized translation is the same sworn translation, additionally certified by a notary. The second step is only needed when the receiving institution asks for it.

Where is a sworn translation accepted?

A sworn translation is valid at all institutions that do not require notary approval. If your institution does ask for notary approval, we add it. For documents used abroad, an apostille or consular legalization may also be needed after notary approval, depending on the country and the institution.

Which documents need a sworn translation?

Sworn translation is commonly required for education documents (diplomas, transcripts, equivalence certificates, student certificates), identity documents (ID cards, passports, driving licenses), company documents (trade registry certificates, activity certificates, tax certificates, signature circulars) and personal records (marriage certificates, birth certificates, criminal record certificates, powers of attorney).

How does the process work?

You bring your document to our office or upload it online as a PDF, Word file or photo. A sworn translator translates it. If notary approval is needed, the translation goes to the notary. You receive the translation as a PDF by email, or the physical copy in person or by courier.

How long does it take and how is it priced?

For most languages, documents under 5,000 characters are delivered in 2 hours. An express option is available if you need it faster. The price is calculated per character, without spaces, in proportion to the rate per 1,000 characters for your language pair. VAT is included; the notary fee is charged separately.
